Competition Law
The competition and antitrust department at SAI Consultores is made up of lawyers and economic analysts, a distinguishing characteristic in the Mexican market. In recent years, the team has represented a number of high-profile international and local clients in merger control filings and cartel investigations, such as CEMEX, Wal-Mart and Nestlé. Clients praise the firm's economics-focused approach and say that by hiring SAI "we are showing the authorities that we are serious about the issue.”
Lucía Ojeda is an extremely well-known and respected name in the market. She is described by sources as being “highly knowledgeable, proactive and attentive to clients' needs.” Partner Luis Alberto Aziz Checa recently assisted with the notification of a joint venture before the CFC.
Arbitration
This firm is based in Mexico City and benefits from a team of in-house economists which provides economic and investment banking advisory services. The arbitration team rises in the ranking this year due to its involvement in a number of high-value arbitration hearings and effusive market feedback. Clients praise the firm's commercial awareness and client service and cite its multidisciplinary capabilities as an important pull factor.
Luis Alberto Aziz Checa leads the department. He represents a large number of clients in the food and drink and oil industries in local and ICC arbitration cases. Partner Lucía Ojeda debuts in the ranking this year. She has recently acted as counsel in a number of arbitration cases and is popular with clients. She also advises on competition/antitrust matters.
International Comercial Disputes
SAI's seven-strong international trade and customs department is made up of both lawyers and economists. This places the firm in a strong position to offer clients economic analyses and research services in addition to advising on general customs and trade matters.
The team handles complex cross-border cases for corporate clients and industry bodies, such as IUSA and Nacional de Cobre. In a recent highlight, it developed for CANAINTEX, the textile industry body, a monitoring system that tracks the demand for textile products in Mexico and the USA. Sources praise the team for its "dedication, creativity and knowledge of local and international trade and customs law."
Department head Luz Elena Reyes de la Torre is regularly seen on significant and innovative cases. Clients say she is "indefatigable and a terrific lawyer to work with in this sector."
On February the 27th, the Mexican newspaper “Reforma” published a special supplement on the best law firms in Mexico, according to Chambers and Partners Latin America 2012.
We are proud to share with our clients and friends that SAI Law and Economics was distinguished as one of the best firms in the country in many of our practice areas.
Once again, we confirm our commitment to our clients to provide professional services with standards of excellence.
